Water is an important aspect of Belgrade, creating its economic, recreational, ecological and cultural potential, so the waterfront is a very important part of the city. The new Beton Hala Waterfront Centre connects the old town, the centre and the river bank. The diversity of its functions will keep the centre alive and full of people, day and night. The new building is conceived as long and low, and is shaped by and planned for organic pedestrian flows. The narrow bank widens and rises at the existing Beton Hala roof, and then lowers again. The whole area and the roof are a universal and open public space. The roof could be used as a mini-amphitheatre or a viewpoint. The area is designed for pedestrians; therefore, pedestrian and transport flows are separated. The main flow goes below the centre, so the other streets are quieter. The architectural expression seeks to create a dialogue with the old Beton Hala building, the city and the park.
