This was the first competition that our practice won, and it marked the beginning of a new era for us. It was also the first building that we conceived to house a single organisation, and we were able to decide both its architectural form and the inside spaces. Two 16 and 14-storey volumes flank an atrium, which continues the axis of the old Ukmerges St, with Gediminas’ Castle in the distance. The ground floor, where the main client-service operations are, with a passage and a cafe space with a good view of the banks of the river Neris, resembles a public urban space. The building has become an integral part of the layout of the right bank of the river: the roof line of the lower volume brings the stylobate line of the nearby church, the shopping centre and the hotel down to the ground. It was a good decision to turn the roof of the lower part into a wooden terrace with flower pots and seats, which has become a favourite spot with locals, and a feature of the river bank.
